What was our thinking? (or better yet what WERE we thinking?!?!?) We didn’t want a full-blown conference right off the bat since none of us had ever done this before and USENIX is only beginning to dabble in NT.

We also didn’t want to make it a track at LISA since that would mean having to decide between doing NT and doing UNIX for a lot of people. A better approach for LISA would be to integrate the talks into the existing tracks.

So we settled on a workshop format with less formal papers than a conference as well as a more open format.
