Tutorial Instructors [Tutorials at-a-Glance] [Tutorial Overview] Bryan Buus (M3) is the manager of XOR Network Engineering's Web services group. Before coming to XOR, Bryan kickstarted O'Reilly's & Associate's online efforts in 1992. He has been managing Web services since their introduction. He has given seminars on managing Web services for CERFnet, the SANS Conference, and Hewlett Packard's consulting division. Bryan is a co-author of Managing Internet Information Services (O'Reilly & Associates). Scott Guthery (M1) leads the cryptographic device project at CertCo. He has a PhD in Probability and Statistics from Michigan State University and worked at Bell Laboratories and Schlumberger before joining CertCo. At Schlumberger he received two patents for his contributions to Schlumberger's well logging system and lead the team that invented the Java Card, a smart card that runs Java. He has published articles in number theory, programming languages and network protocols and is a co-author with Tim Jurgensen of the recently published book, Smart Card Developer's Kit (MacMillan). Dr. Clifford Neuman (M6) is a senior research scientist at the Information Sciences Institute of the University of Southern California, a faculty member in the Computer Science Department at USC, and Chief Scientist for CyberSafe Corporation. He was one of the principal designers of the Kerberos authentication system for Project Athena. He received MS and PhD degrees from the University of Washington. Dr. Neuman's recent work includes the development of a security infrastructure supporting authorization, accounting, and the NetCheque® electronic payment system. Bruce Schneier (M2) & (M5) is president of Counterpane Systems, a cryptography and computer security consulting company. He is the author of Applied Cryptography (John Wiley & Sons), the seminal work in its field. Now in its second edition, Applied Cryptography has sold over 80,000 copies world-wide and has been translated into four languages. His papers have appeared at international conferences, and he has written dozens of articles on cryptography for major magazines. He designed the popular Blowfish encryption algorithm, still unbroken after years of cryptanalysis. Benjamin Wright (M4) is the author of The Law of Electronic Commerce (Aspen Law & Business), a comprehensive book on the legality of electronic contracts. He is also editor of the Journal of Electronic Commerce, a quarterly journal covering technology, business, legal and security issues in online industry. A graduate of Georgetown University Law School, Mr. Wright is an independent attorney practicing electronic commercial law in Dallas, Texas. |
