Linux in Space! The Portland State Aerospace Society (PSAS) will be exhibiting their latest sub-orbital amateur rocket and support system in the Exhibition Hall at USENIX '03. They will show videos of the rocket being launched, and also hold a BoF session to talk about it. PSAS is an entirely open source, open hardware student and volunteer organization based at Portland State University in Portland, Oregon. The current PSAS system consists of a second generation rocket airframe, launch tower, wireless networking and telemetry equipment, and a sophisticated amateur avionics (flight electronics) package. PSAS is a leader among amateur groups exploring the navigation and steering of rockets, which are key technologies to achieving orbit. The current avionics system measures the rocket's position and orientation in real time by processing GPS and inertial measurement data. We are particularly interested in presenting students' work. A schedule of presentations will be posted at the conference, and the speakers will be notified in advance.
