Scheduling a BoF
To schedule a BoF, simply write the BoF title as well as your name and affiliation on one of the BoF Boards located in the registration area. If you have a description of our BoF you'd like posted on this Web page, please schedule your BoF on the BoF board, then send its title, the organizer's name and affiliation, and the date, time, and location of the BoF to bofs@usenix.org with "ConfWeek '10 BoF" in the subject line.

This past year, EMC celebrated 30 years of sustained innovation and investment in the technology of information. We are now regularly told that cloud computing changes everything. Come join us for an interactive discussion of the developers view on the set of changes embodied by cloud storage and cloud computing. In particular, how can the technologies that we take for granted in our lives as personal information consumers be used to build corporate information systems and address the ever-expanding digital information footprint. The discussion will draw on experience from the wide range of EMC businesses - from Iomega home storage to technologies for the largest corporate data centers. VMware is best known for being a leader in server virtualization, but we're also constantly innovating and improving our user products. Come talk to developers and see a demo of Fusion, VMware's well-known desktop virtualization product for the Mac, and VMware's new mobile virtualization platform (MVP) for ARM-based mobile devices. We will also be handing out a limited number of free software licenses for Fusion (for Mac) and Workstation (for Windows and Linux).

Coreboot (nee LinuxBIOS) is a Free Software BIOS for x86 systems. It has found wide use in high performance computing and embedded systems. In recent years the need for coreboot has increased greatly, to the point that customers are specifying it in procurements. We're going to meet with vendors and customers to talk about what both need to make coreboot work in their business model. We have a number of invitees but this is an open meeting.
SNIA Green Storage Initiative, Energy Measurement and Metrics

SNIA Green Storage Initiative and Technical Work Group are working on a data center storage system energy measurement specification as well as requirements for operational metrics. This session will provide a brief overview of SNIA's efforts, how they correlate to programs such as the EPA Data Center and Storage Energy Star program. The session main objective is solicit requirements for operational metrics to manage and optimize data center storage systems for energy efficiency. SNIA Cloud Storage Initiative and Technical Work Group have delivered a V1.0 data storage as a service standard. Learn more about SNIA and CDMI, the current CDMI software development efforts underway with the developers group working on a CDMI reference implementation, a recent joint SNIA/OGF cloud demonstration, and a planned September CDMI plugfest. CDMI is of equal interest for private cloud or public cloud service providers.
