An Experimental Study of Broadcasting Protocols
for Video on Demand
It has been recently shown that broadcasting protocols using up to
400 very low bandwidth streams for each video would perform better
than protocols using a few high-bandwidth streams shared by all
videos. We plan to evaluate the feasibility of the former
protocols in a LAN environment by building a dedicated server that
will simulate the behavior of a video on demand server broadcasting
a large number of streams at very different packet rates at very
different packet rates.

Conference Plans
We plan to write a paper next Summer and to submit it to the 2000 USENIX Annual Technical Conference.
