Keynote Address: Buying Computing and Storage by the Slice
Gary Campbell, Director of Tandem Computers, Inc. "Buying Computing and Storage by the Slice" is a combination of distributed and clustered computing technologies. It has been available for 20 years with specialized systems but is only now slowly emerging in standards based hardware as a commercially compelling replacement of large SMP and scientific computers. This presentation examines the commercial status of "Buying Computing and Storage by the Slice" ... the hardware and software techniques, the economic development and deployment incentives, the hardware and software barriers and limitations, and current commercial case studies.
