USENIX Workshop on Smartcard Technology

May 10-11, 1999
McCormick Place South
South Building, 5th Level, Room S501 A & B
Chicago, Illinois, USA

The USENIX Workshop on Smartcard Technology is being held in conjunction with CardTech/SecurTech, May 11-14, 1999. Attend this high-level workshop and take advantage of free admission to the world's largest Card and Security Exhibition.

Dear Colleague:
We invite you to join with us in what will surely be a very productive exchange. The USENIX Workshop on Smartcard Technology, May 10-11, 1999, is bringing together researchers, product developers, and practitioners in the development and deployment of smart card systems and technologies. You'll learn, in the company of the real experts, about what are the technology solutions for today, and what is on the drawing boards for tomorrow.

The USENIX Workshop on Smartcard Technology is the first of its kind in North America. The Program Committee has assembled a peer-reviewed collection of papers from around the world. The advanced technical program reports the latest in smartcard research and new developments in hardware, software, and system issues. It includes sessions that focus on the strengths and weaknesses of smart cards, their hardware and operating systems, and their use as a base technology in distributed computing. Two keynotes are offered; the first by Fred Renner, VP, Chief Technology Officer, Global Transaction Company and the second by Dr. David Everett, Technical Director, NatWest Group. Please look over the technical program and other opportunities for meeting with other professionals.

With computers becoming more mobile and more personal, smart cards have been identified as an application platform with compelling market properties as well as fascinating technical challenges. The USENIX Workshop strives to present the latest thinking about this platform in a way that can be understood by technical audiences familiar with desktop and laptop computing.

And there's an added bonus. The USENIX Workshop on Smartcard Technology is being held in conjunction with CardTech/SecurTech, May 11-14, 1999 [https://www.ctst.com/]. You can attend this high-level workshop and take advantage of free admission to the world's largest Card and Security Exhibition.

We look forward to seeing you in Chicago on May 10-11, 1999.
