The Fourth Industrial Revolution

Dave Smith, ObjectAutomation

Abstract

The promise of Object Oriented Technology has long been that of reusable, portable software components. Contemporary computing technologies, like COM and CORBA, coupled with those that accompany the evolution of personal computing ... the PC itself, plus networking and internetworking, have provided an environment where this promis has become a reality. The benefits that derive from the reality of truly reusable software components are enormous, even though much of that benefit is yet to be realized. We will explore some of the benefits and why they are important, in particular as they spur the fourth industrial revolution.

Dave Smith is the founder of ObjectAutomation, a three year old start-up in Southern California, that has developed an "object-based" universal, industrial automation system. Mr. Smith has been in the automation sector for over 30 years, in product development and marketing roles at ComputerAutomation, Triconex, Wonderware and now, founder of ObjectAutomation. He holds a BA in Math/Computer Science from the University of California and an MBA from Pepperdine University.
