Java: An Exercise in
Research Avoidance
Java was developed as a tool for a team of engineers trying to build advanced software, it was not a research project. The design was derived fairly naturally from a set of goals and design principles. This talk will present those goals and principles and show how some of the derivation happened. A lot of theory from the preceeding years was incorporated, but overall the target was the real world.
