An Invitation from the Program Chair
The Second Workshop on Industrial Experiences with Systems Software
(WIESS '02) is the ideal opportunity for systems software professionals, working
"in the trenches," to share their knowledge and to connect with like-minded
peers and active researchers. WIESS was designed to complement SOSP, OSDI, and
similar conferences by providing a venue for papers, presentations, and
discussions that are primarily
concerned not with research results, but with exploiting, inspiring, or
directing research.
The WIESS '02 program offers a comprehensive day of presentations and
discussions on topics ranging from systems performance to smartcard security,
with an emphasis on how to improve technology transfer from research to
products. Douglass Wilson, IBM Distinguished Engineer and (among many other
achievements) lead architect for Lotus 1-2-3 '97, will kick off the program. His
talk will be followed by paper
presentations, an invited talk from John Mashey, and plenty of opportunities for informal
interactions with fellow attendees and presenters. Rounding out the program will
be a panel session on the personal benefits of blurring the borders between
"research" and "industry," with joint participation by WIESS and OSDI attendees.
Join us on December 8, 2002, at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel, for a day of
technical and experience exchanges you won't find anywhere else.
