The Internet continues to evolve in interesting and unexpected ways. Electronic commerce, mobility, streaming media, and other developments are driving the creation of new applications, protocols, security models, and systems. Recent application-level changes, such as XML, may dramatically improve the functionality of the Web, and an increasing number of consumer devices are being built to be Internet-ready. What's next? Keynote speaker Scott Guthery, one of the world's leading smartcard researchers, will draw a roadmap of Internet technologies and systems--particularly those in the mobile and wireless space--based on past, present, and proposed interfaces between the technologies.

Speaker Mike Burrows will introduce you to search engine AltaVista as the developers experienced it: its structure, operational problems, and some of the software internals he most enjoyed building.
