Overview
MobiSys 2005 seeks to present innovative, significant research in the
area of mobile and wireless systems. This will be a 2.5-day conference, featuring
refereed paper presentations, demos, and poster sessions; it will be
co-located with several closely related workshops. This conference
builds on the success of the first two MobiSys conferences, held in San
Francisco and Boston, which featured many high-caliber research papers and many interesting posters and demonstrations. The conference particularly values the
practical experience gained from designing, building, and using mobile
systems, applications, and services.
Topics
The conference addresses broad systems issues in mobile computing.
Areas of interest include but are not limited to:
- Design, implementation, and evaluation of mobile and wireless systems
- Middleware and service architectures for mobile and wireless applications
- Data management for mobile and wireless applications
- Disconnected and weakly connected operation
- Proxies and data adaptation
- Mobile agents
- Operating systems for small devices
- Infrastructure support for mobility
- Security, privacy, authorization, and billing
- System-level energy management for mobile and wireless devices
- Wearable and handheld devices in the context of system design
- Personal mobility
- Personal-area networks and systems
- Resource discovery of mobile services
- Systems for location awareness and determination
- Application interfaces and services supporting the mobile user
- Systems support for mobile robots
- Experience with mobile and wireless systems
- Experience with sensor networks and systems
- Tools and design methodologies for building mobile and wireless systems
- Usage evaluations of mobile and wireless systems
The ideal MobiSys submission should present novel research that
has resulted in the implementation or evaluation of running systems.
Papers that describe the design of and experience with mobile system
architectures are favored over those narrowly focused on low-level
components. Please feel free to contact the Program
Chairs at mobisys_pcchairs@acm.org to determine appropriateness.
Best Paper Award
An award will be given at the conference for the best paper.
What to Submit
Submissions should be full papers, 12–14 single-spaced 8.5" x 11"
pages, including figures, tables, and references, two-column format,
using 10-point type on 12-point (single-spaced) leading with
reasonable margins. Submissions will be judged on originality,
significance, interest, clarity, relevance, and correctness. Accepted
papers will be shepherded through an editorial review process by a
member of the program committee.
MobiSys, like most conferences and journals, requires that papers must
not be submitted simultaneously to any other conference or publication,
that submissions must not be previously published, and that accepted
papers must not be subsequently published elsewhere. Papers
accompanied by nondisclosure agreement forms are not acceptable
and will be returned to the author(s) unread. All submissions will
be held in the highest confidentiality prior to publication in the
Proceedings, both as a matter of policy and in accord with the
U.S. Copyright Act of 1976.
How to Submit
Authors are required to submit a title and abstract by November 3, 2004,
12:00 midnight EST. Full papers are due November 8, 2004, 12:00 midnight EST.
All submissions to MobiSys 2005 must be electronic, in PDF format, via a Web form. Please see the detailed submission instructions for more information and to submit.
Poster and Demo Sessions
Do you have interesting work you would like to share, or a great idea
that is not quite ready to be published? Poster sessions are for you!
The poster sessions introduce new or ongoing work. Demos of working
systems and applications are also encouraged. The MobiSys audience
will provide valuable discussion and feedback. We are particularly
interested in presentations of student work. See the Call for Poster/Demo Proposals for details and submission instructions.
Workshop Proposals
As in the past, MobiSys will be co-located with several workshops for
highly focused discussions of new and emerging topics. This year, we
are accepting proposals for workshop topics. Proposals—no
longer than a few pages—should identify the workshop theme, potential
program chair(s), potential program committee members, and a list of
