Tenosynovitis -- irritation from the tendon and sheath rubbing together, causing overproduction of synovial fluid

Stenosing tenosynovitis -- chronic cases where the tendon moves with great difficulty through the sheath

DeQuervain’s disease -- tendon & tendon sheath merge at junction of wrist and thumb. Extremely painful inflammation, thickening, and tenderness. Often experienced when twisting, like wringing out a dishcloth. Holding thumbs up while typing or hitting spacebar with too much force can cause it.

Trigger finger -- locking of a digit in the bent position. Occurs when a nodule or ganglion cyst forms on the tendon, which catches in the sheath. Must be straightened manually with other hand. VERY painful.
