The principles of design of chunkfs are closely related to those of crash-only software[5]. Our goals are safe crashes, quick recovery, and strong fault isolation. Chunks suffering disk corruption (``bugs'') can be unmounted (``crashed''), checked and repaired (``recovered''), and remounted, all independent of other chunks (module directory structure).
