Yahoo! Keynotes with Presentation on "Scaling Search Beyond the Public Web"
San Diego, California — USENIX, the Advanced Computing Systems Association and SAGE, the System Administrators Guild, today announced a distinguished lineup of well-known experts presenting the newest research and strategies for solving critical IT challenges at the 19th Large Installation System Administration Conference (LISA '05), December 4-9 in San Diego.
With security a priority for system and network administrators, LISA '05 (https://www.usenix.org/events/lisa05/) offers a broad selection of training classes on security-related topics including Linux security and network incidence response; refereed papers showcasing state-of-the-art work on security and access controls, and invited talks by luminaries on subjects ranging from vulnerabilities through wireless security to firewalls.
Matt Blaze, University of Pennsylvania, presents a session on "Picking Locks with Cryptology," a discussion that examines mechanical locks from a computer scientist's viewpoint and the parallels that can be drawn between physical security systems and the attacks that plague computers and networks.
The latest in search technology will be explored in a keynote address, "Scaling Search Beyond the Public Web," delivered by Qi Lu, vice president of engineering, Yahoo! Inc. The keynote presentation examines what's next in search and focuses on technology infrastructure that can store, index, and search user and community content on a massive scale. Specific topics also include storage management, fault tolerance, metrics, and real-time monitoring.
"LISA '05 once again is set to deliver an educational program combined with thought-provoking discussions that address the most important issues faced by system administrators," said LISA '05 Program Chair, David N. Blank-Edelman, Northeastern University. "In response to our surveys, security is one of the threads that we have running very strongly through LISA '05 this year."
The six-day LISA '05 training program includes 50 in-depth, immediately useful sessions on the latest techniques, effective tools, and best strategies for solving the toughest system administration challenges. The new Hit the Ground Running Track offers 15-minute talks that give a head start on the must-know topics in cutting-edge technologies including VoIP, SAN, configuration management, identity management, and network security. New and improved peer interaction opportunities include Solve My Problem Boards where attendees can post questions and have them answered by peers.
