An Invitation from the Program Chair

Dear Colleague,

The Internet continues to evolve in interesting and unexpected ways. Electronic commerce, mobility, streaming media, and other developments are driving the creation of new applications, protocols, security models, and systems. Recent application-level changes, such as XML, may dramatically improve the functionality of the Web, and an increasing number of consumer devices are being built to be Internet-ready. What's next? To find out, join us at the 3rd USENIX Symposium on Internet Technologies and Systems.

Keynote speaker Scott Guthery, one of the world's leading smartcard researchers, will draw a roadmap of Internet technologies and systems--particularly those in the mobile and wireless space--based on past, present, and proposed interfaces between the technologies.

Speaker Mike Burrows will introduce you to search engine AltaVista as the developers experienced it: its structure, operational problems, and some of the software internals he most enjoyed building.

In the technical track, leading researchers from both academia and the commercial world will talk about the latest approaches to streaming media, content routing, cache performance, distributed object services, mobile computing, network services, Web hosting, and more.

Join colleagues with similar interests for stimulating discussions at the evening Birds-of-a-Feather sessions. In the Work-in-Progress session, get a preview of next year's news, or present fledgling work of your own and get feedback from the USITS audience. The opening get-together, symposium luncheon, and dinner reception all offer great gustatory opportunities to meet and mingle with others engaged in driving the Internet into the new century.

Please join us in San Francisco March 26-28, 2001.
