Birds-of-a-Feather Sessions (BoFs)

Lead or attend a BoF! Meet with your peers! BoFs are very informal evening gatherings of persons interested in a particular topic. To schedule a session in advance, email Danny Cox at alsbofs@usenix.org. Please take a look at the current BOF schedule.

Linux In Action (LIA)

Linux In Action will be teaching free hands-on classes designed for the Linux newbie. The first class is an introduction to Linux, focusing on the basic commands necessary for a novice to navigate a Linux system from the command line. The second class will focus on how a novice can configure and use the Linux graphical environment. Each class will be taught twice daily during normal exhibition hours, Nov. 8 through Nov. 10. Classes are first come, first served. No previous Linux experience is required for either class.

10th Birthday Party for Linux
Thursday, November 8, 7:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Party with the people who make Linux happen! The party will be followed by the Linux BoF with Jon "maddog" Hall and Ted Ts'o.

Work-in-Progress Reports (WiPs)
Saturday, November 10, 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm

Short, pithy, and fun, Work-in-Progress reports introduce interesting new or on-going work, and the ALS audience provides valuable discussion and feedback. Presentations of student work are particularly welcome. A schedule of presentations will be posted at the conference. If you have work you'd like to share or a cool idea that's not quite ready for publication, send a short summary to alswips@usenix.org. WiPs presentations are strictly limited to five minutes each.

BattleBots November 2001 Competition

The BattleBots November 2001 Competition will take place on Treasure Island - Studio 3, San Francisco, CA. They are filming from Sunday, 11/4 to Sunday, 11/11. See the full schedule for more details. Tickets range from $5.00 to $125.00. For all ticket prices & package descriptions go to https://www.battlebots.com/tickets/. Unfortunately, no group discounts or coupons are available for this event.

There is no public parking on Treasure Island - audience members must take public transportation to and from the Treasure Island facility. Cars attempting to drive onto the island will be turned away at the Treasure Island guard booth. BattleBots and AC transit are providing special extended bus service from West Oakland BART to Treasure Island. SF MUNI provides regular service to Treasure Island from the Transbay Terminal.
