Ahmed Amer is a full-time student and Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Computer Science at University of California at Santa Cruz. He received his Master of Science degree from the American University in Cairo. Ahmed's previous year's research has been funded under an NSF grant, under which he developed a new algorithm for predicting idle periods that is better than the previously known best algorithm. He is now blending theory and practice to come up with a way to group related files.
