• Format has gotten more formal over the years.

• Always ASCII – no Postscript, HTML, proprietary formats.

  • Postscript and PDF are legal secondary formats

• All RFCs are freely redistributable.

• For standards-track documents, the IETF retains change control, to permit evolution of standards.
