Another kind of attack that we must guard against is disrupter attacks. A disrupter is an attacker motivated to disrupt, impair, or destroy a system or particular user. They might want to do this for prestige (any system whose disruption would make the front page is a target for some attackers) or to hurt a hated company or person. Unlike free riders, disrupters cannot be deterred simply by making such attacks unprofitable; the attacks must be made ineffective or beyond the attackers' budget.
