John Lions Endowed Chair Campaign
The University of New South Wales is establishing an endowed Chair to recognize the enormous contribution made by John Lions to the world of computing.

The Chair, to be called the John Lions Chair in Operating Systems, will enable an eminent academic to continue the John Lions tradition of insightful and inspirational teaching in operating systems. The creation of the Chair will perpetuate the John Lions name, and new generations of students will benefit from his legacy.

The USENIX Board voted to match up to $250,000 in 2006 donations to establish the John Lions Chair in Operating Systems at the University of New South Wales.

USENIX received $39,224 from outside donors in 2006. Linux Australia made the largest donation, $18,022. USENIX matched dollar for dollar all donations, so the grand total donated to UNSW for this campaign will be $80,000.

Theodore Ts'o, USENIX Treasurer, presented a check for this amount to Gernot Heiser, who represented UNSW, at linux.conf.au 2007.

UNSW is continuing fundraising to endow the chair in perpetuity. To make a donation to the fund from the U.S., please see the U.S. Donation Procedures on the UNSW Web site.
