Richard A. Clarke, Internationally Recognized Security Expert and Former Senior White House Advisor, Keynotes 15th USENIX Security Symposium

Debut of USENIX/ACCURATE Electronic Voting Technology Workshop

Vancouver, B.C. — Homeland security, national security, cyber security and counterterrorism—if it's related to security, it's on the agenda at the 15th USENIX Security Symposium, July 31–August 4, in Vancouver, B.C., Canada.

With new services, systems, and networking architectures continually adding new dimensions to the security field, security challenges abound. The USENIX Security Symposium once again delivers with five days of cutting-edge research, tutorials, and invited talks covering a broad selection of security topics ranging from securing real systems through diagnosing the Net.

Richard A. Clarke, internationally recognized security expert and former senior White House Advisor of three presidents, delivers the keynote address on "The Current State of the War on Terrorism and What It Means for Homeland Security and Technology."

The Symposium's renowned 2-day training program, taught by leading experts in their fields, such as Richard Bejtlich and Dan Geer, covers the latest topics including, "Understanding and Addressing the Threat of Internet Worms," "TCP/IP Weapons School," "Introduction to Practical Cryptography," and "RFID Security & Privacy."

The evolving world of security is covered in three days of invited talks on subjects including next generation DRM, the politics of wiretapping, and major security blunders of the past 30 years. The 22 refereed papers present the best new research in a variety of subject areas, including intrusion detection, system assurance, static analysis for security, and authentication.

The first USENIX/ACCURATE Electronic Voting Technology Workshop, co-located with the Security Symposium, will be held on August 1. Researchers, from a variety of disciplines, including political scientists, legal experts, election administrators, and voting equipment vendors will discuss electronic voting usability, technologies, and policies and practice.
